Orthotics

Many of our patients who experience foot health problems benefit immensely from custom made orthotics. Even though orthotics only have direct contact with the foot, there are many reasons people can benefit from orthotics that are not necessarily related to foot pain. Pain in the feet, knees, hips or low back is often the result of abnormal foot position and altered walkingbiomechanics. Subtle changes in your feet can affect the way you walk and will affect other joints in your body through the kinetic chain.

This is especially important for pregnant women and women who have had a pregnancy in the past. The added physical stress of pregnancy compounded by an influx of relaxin can cause feet to change shape and often results in discomfort of the feet, which can be helped with custom made orthotics.

Your feet are a complex system of bones, ligaments, muscles and tendons working together to support your body. The arches are under enormous stress and strain every day. If arches lose their ability to flex and return to their normal shape, your feet will not be able to properly absorb the shock of walking. Over time, this added stress can cause break down in the joints of the feet and the rest of the body.

A foot examination in our office will detect these subtle changes and determine whether orthotic therapy can benefit you.
